The Challenge of Safe Obstetrics Anesthesia in Governmental Hospitals at Sana'a City 2023
Background: the international standards for a safe practice of anesthesia (ISSPA), were developed on behalf of the world federation of societies of anesthesiologists and world Health Organization. It has been recommended as assessment tools that allows anesthetic providers in developing counties to assess their compliance and needs.
Aim of study: This study was performed to describe the obstetric anesthetic service safety provided in six referral hospitals during 3-month medical mission in Sanaa city to evaluate its anesthetic safety issues according to ISSPA.
Methods: A cross- sectional survey was conducted at six referral hospitals in Sanaa. Using a questionnaire based on the world federation of the societies of anesthesiologists (WFSA) international guidelines for safe anesthesia, we interviewed anesthetists in these hospitals, and the adequacy in personal facilities, equipment, medications, and conduct of anesthesia drugs were recorded using a checklist based on ISSPA.
Results: The hospital No. was 6, and that have always available of Drugs, equipment, suctions, no. of table, and anesthesia machine and monitoring equipment, and the staff was (Specialist anesthesiologist: 29, Resident anesthesiologist: 37, Nonphysician (anesthetist): 51), the male 71 and female 46, the staff have full-time 34, and part-time 83.
Conclusion: Our study found that the Availability of Drugs, equipment, suctions, no of table and anesthesia machine and monitoring equipment according to ISSPA was always available, and the number of staff in relation to the number of operating rooms is a sufficient number in the hospitals in which he went to collect data, this is due to all hospital on study was government hospitals.
