Background: Childbirth is regarded as an important life event for women, and growing numbers of them are making the choice to give birth by Caesarean Delivery.
Objective: The aim of the study is to assess women mode of delivery, causes, associated factors and outcomes.
methods: a cross sectional, multicenter study, where 62 Yemeni women voluntary agreed to participate and answer anonymous questionnaire regarding their mode of delivery.
Results: mean age of the participants was 25.74 ± 6.65, where 20 participants already finished secondary school as a high level of their education (32.3%), where 46.8% had a cesarean section in the previous delivery and only 29% had normal delivery. Of those pregnant women 43.5% underwent spinal anesthesia as a type of anesthetic of previous delivery, whereas 19.4% underwent General anesthesia. Of those spinally anesthetized 16.1% were elective cases, while 38.7% were under emergency status. According to pregnant women in our study, general anesthesia is the best method for delivery 59.7%, while 38.7% were of different opinion. The decision made between obstetrician and pregnant woman before caesarian section regarding the appropriate way to give birth was statistically significant. (p<0.o5), while patient- anesthesiologist decision regarding anesthesia types for mode of delivery was not statistically significant. The results of this study provide a better understanding of the factors influencing the choice of mode of delivery among childbearing women.
Conclusion: There is evidence of a growing preference for cesarean delivery. While age, level of education, and involvement in a health-related profession influenced the decision made by the women, the perceptions of the benefits and severity of the different modes of delivery were the most important considerations. There is also evidence that advice from health professionals plays an important role in the maternal decision on mode of birth. There is a need for comprehensive information on the benefits and severity of the different modes of delivery, instead of just the birth procedures. Women of childbearing age should have a right to receive comprehensive and unbiased information from health professionals so that they can make an informed choice on the mode of birth that is most suitable for them.
