Background: The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization(WHO) regard Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) as a work related disease , which is also referred to as a “new epidemic” that should be researched and solved ,Long-term and severe MSDs could affect quality of life, reduce work productivity, increase sick leave absence, shorten working life and cause chronic occupational disability and constitute a major health challenge for individuals and healthcare systems around the world .
Objective: to assess the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among anesthesiologist at various hospitals at Sanaa city.
Methods: cross sectional study used a standard work-related musculoskeletal disease questionnaire, filled voluntary by anesthesia providers at various hospitals of Sanaa city.
Results: a sample size of 103 anesthesia providers was collected, the mean age was 36±12, where 40.8% of age between 20-30 years old, mostlt 80.6% male sex, with experience of 1-5 years(42.7%), fewer with experience of more than 40 years(1%), and 61.6% had no exercise habits which 45.6% had normal BMI, and 41.9% work 20-40 h/w, although 83.2% had any chronic diseases. The participants frequently reported   MSD in three different anatomic regions 14.6% ( low back, shoulders and knees), which prevented them from carrying out normal activities and  visiting a physician during the last 12 months.
Conclusion: the study explore that anesthetists carry high risks for musculoskeletal disorders. The respondents reported different WRMDs and to have different workload characteristics and working ergonomics during anesthetic care in the operating room.
