Azal University Department of Pharmacy Pioneers Research on Local Herbal Extracts and Sustainable Drug Formulation to Support National Healthcare
Demonstrating an exceptional commitment to pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and evidence-based medical research, the Department of Pharmacy within the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Azal University for Human Development (AUHD) has unveiled a series of groundbreaking student graduation projects focusing on local medicinal plant extractions and sustainable drug formulation.
Bridging Pharmacognosy and Domestic Pharmaceutical Security
Under the supervision of senior clinical pharmacologists and academic deans, pharmacy student cohorts have spent the academic year investigating the active antimicrobial and therapeutic properties of native flora, including advanced extractions from Sidr (*Ziziphus spina-christi*) and regional medicinal herbs. By applying rigorous high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and standardized assay protocols in AUHD's modern laboratories, students successfully formulated stable topical antimicrobial gels and wound-healing compounds, directly addressing the need for accessible domestic pharmaceutical alternatives.
Aligning with International Standards via FIP Membership
This rigorous emphasis on pharmaceutical research aligns seamlessly with AUHD's official membership in the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). By structuring pharmacy curricula and laboratory practicums around international quality benchmarks, the university ensures that its pharmacy graduates possess advanced competencies in drug compounding, quality control, toxicological screening, and clinical pharmacotherapy.
Translating Laboratory Innovation into Market Readiness
Complementing laboratory work, pharmacy students participate in structured industrial field training at prominent manufacturing plants such as Modern Pharma (Al-Aqel Facilities), observing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and large-scale drug production. Backed by top-tier standings on the Nature Index and verified credentials through the SAR System, AUHD pharmacy graduates are exceptionally well-equipped for leadership roles in community pharmacies, clinical hospitals, and the regional pharmaceutical sector. Further details regarding pharmacy admissions can be explored through the official Student Academic Guide.
